Going Home

It was held in one of those old churches, one so old, that it had a history of it's own. The graveyard outside, had the names of old families, solid families who had settled here before New Jersey was a State! The headstones outside told of the people who were buried there, some, who had been born and died, in the nineteenth Century, and some, the brown ones, were even older!
Together in the chapel, the group had gathered, and talked among themselves, looking back fondly on old times, but also, so they wouldn't have to talk about the man, that they had come together to honor. A collection of characters who ran the gamut! There were those who were like Royalty, because their families lineage could be traced back form the town, and for some, the church in which we sat! These folks had family buried outside, you could trace the names like street signs! Then there were the implants, those who like my family, had joined this community during the great exodus from the cities, which had happened after the Second World War.
But there was no pretense in this crowd, because all of them had come home! There lives had intertwined, their parents had known each other, and they had been kids together! But there was something to be said which ran deeper then those interpersonal connections? There was something about being back to this town, sitting in this church, something about just being there together again! So many memories came flooding back!
Life is funny, because though the good times fade with the rigors of everyday life, it is always the sad times that will bring us all together again! Goodbye my old friend! You brought us all together again, but here's the best part, we came together as kids again, if only for a moment!
