Fair Share

At heart I am a simple man, and because of this, I will always look first for an easier way to do things, and usually, that way is the simplest? This is not because of laziness, nor do I choose it because it is less work. But I will always look for a simpler way, and it is usually the easiest way as well.
Though I hate thinking about such things, lately, I have found myself thinking about the National budget? But again, being a simple man, I look for simple solutions. To that extent, though it has been discussed before in varying terms, I have come to believe, that a national sales tax is what is needed. A simple 10% tax should be placed on any and all purchases. And because it is a simple tax levied from all, there would be no exemptions. Because by it's very nature, it is fair, in that everyone must pay it, as we all buy things on a daily basis. With our available cash, we buy the necessities, like groceries, fuel for our cars, and so on.
Now if you don't feel comfortable with the term sales tax, why not call it what it really is, a Consumption tax? We are a nation of consumers, and we all consume something on a daily basis. We all consume something, from the necessities like goods and services, and for luxuries as we can afford them.
So then, we all pay a ten percent tax on everything we buy, but we pay only one tax, and that tax is fair, as we only would be taxed on what it is that we consume. When you think of it, it is a fair and balanced approach, as the wealthy would buy more and more expensive items, therefor paying more in taxes, where the poor and middle class, because they have less money to spend, pay less in taxes.
Simple right? Everyone pays the same amount, based on how much they consume with their income level. You might say that it is a fair share distributed fairly!
