Jonah and the current Age
Most of you have heard about the fable (story), about Jonah, the man who was swallowed up by a big fish for three days until puked up on the shores of Nineveh. However you pronounce the name of the city, those of you who know will think that maybe the city's name might come up in the writings from Tolkien and C S Lewis. Anyway, first let's set the above scene straight. The story about Jonah the prophet is not a fable, but a fact.
Jonah was a prophet who lived between seven and eight hundred years before the birth of Christ, which of course began this our modern age. You can wax eloquent if you like with words denying the reality of an all knowing entity, One God! the one who started it all , And, is at the center of it all. The Bible is the oldest known verifiable book in the world. Five thousand years in the making, two thousand plus years into the modern age and the Bible is more relevant now than ever. His voice sounds like the rushing of many waters, it is the sound of all languages and spoken words all as one sound, a very impressive sound, for each hears in his own language and dialect. In the small summation that is in my Bible above the actual writings of Jonah. The Bible lives because it has been taught to many writers and witnesses through thousands of years because it remains true today yesterday and tomorrow. The author of the book is the Lord our God as a teacher, the Holy Spirit, told to men and many witnesses throughout history. Written by mere men yes, the thoughts of God as taught by His spirit, told to men and written down, recorded and accurate through the near eight thousand years that is recorded in the book. Simply put, the Bible is not physically written by Him, but written about Him, written down. You can trust the accuracy of what you read If the Bible was a book of fables and lies, it would not have survived some eight thousand years. The Bible is the living and active word of God. Read it, for in it are the teachings and the ways of God, written to men. People, just like you and me, a solitary invitation to come to know God. The one and only God, the absolute purity of the reality of truth.
Have a happy Thanksgiving, hold family close, love each other, bury the hatchet, come together. Thank God for family and all that you have, but thank Him for being Him, Do it as a family, and He will join us at our table. Jesus isn't fickle, He just never forces Himself where He is not welcome. Pray together as a family, go ahead and try it. Afterall, You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
